James and Lena's wedding took place on 22nd October 2016. It was the most beautiful autumnal day gifted with the most wonderful light and colours of the season.
In fact everything about this wedding was simply gorgeous, not least of course the happy couple.
I have chosen to compliment this blog with a piece of music I feel most apt, so please hit PLAY and I shall begin as I introduce you to Caney. Mr James Caney.
Whilst Bond, sorry Caney was preparing to head off to the church, Lena was indulging in all things hair and make up. Surrounded by friends in matching PJs. Yes I did say matching PJs. Some may argue that matching PJs are somewhat not in keeping with the classy Bond theme set by the boys. However, a relaxed atmosphere on the morning of a wedding is vital so on this occasion we'll let them off shall we?
All matching PJs aside, I can assure you that Lena can effortlessly pull off the same level of class as any Bond girl... just you wait and see...
So James wasn't the only one pulling off the classic Bond look. The boys weren't going to let the side down either. I'd say they were pretty proud of themselves and keen to do their Mum proud. Ahhhh mini Bonds. Watch out girls!
Lena remained calm and relaxed throughout the morning and there was hardly a minute she wasn't smiling or laughing, especially when she received a couple of surprise gifts from her Husband to be.
In true 007 style James kept the honeymoon top secret, revealing just one clue to his bride which came in the form of a... wait for it... a thermal top.
Who says romance is.... hang on WAIT...
...fear not! The romance was not to be over-shadowed by top secret agent missions. Oh noooooo.... Mr Caney would never let that happen.
The thermal garment was thoughtfully accompanied by a gold plated rose- bit more like it? Well, I suspect this alleged gold plated flower is in actual fact a secret weapon designed to eliminate an evil villain (with secret plans of world domination- OBVIOUSLY) who may happen to be disguised as an ordinary wedding guest.
Tangent? Moi? Oh OK I might be gettig a tiny bit carried away with the whole Bond theme.
Back to the wedding then... go fetch your tissues! If this song and these photos don't make you weep, even just a little then I fear for you readers, you are DEAD INSIDE.
The reactions of Lena's family and friends as she revealed herself are without doubt up there with some of my higlights from this year.
It is usually the bride's Father's reaction that I am focused on capturing but on this occasion it seemed everyone in the room shared the same emotions. All faces beamed with pride and there were plenty of tears of joy. Especially from best friend Lorna who's face was absolutely priceless!
The ceremony at St Mary's Church in Horsell took place at 2pm and in keeping with the rest of the day it ran smoothly. The kids proudly carried out their ushering and bridesmaid duties and James and Lena exchanged their vows with smiles surrounded by the love and warmth of all those close to them.
THEY GOT MARRIED. Hip hip!!
Proudly presenting Mr and Mrs Caney.
Mr and Mrs Caney left the church in true 007 style, departing in none other than an Aston Martin and headed off to Meade Hall for their wedding reception.
Meade Hall is part of the Crown and Cushion in Blackwater. It is everything I love in a venue, inside it is predominently lit by fairy lights and candles. Upon arrival guests were greeted with bubbles, hot canapes and a roaring fire which created a warm and cosey atmosphere as the early evening approached.
So whilst the guests mingled amoungst themselves I took Mr and Mrs off to make the most of the last of the autumn sun. Although it can be much chillier in October I think the sacrifice of the warm temperatures is well worth it for the beautiful light that the wonders of the autumn season can offer.
Mr and Mrs Caney are a most splendid couple, they have the warmest of hearts and the most loving family and friends. I don't think this wedding could have been written more perfectly. Everything was just as it was meant to be, full of joy, happiness, emotion, romance, surprises and fun.
This was the last wedding I shot in 2016 and it couldn't have ended on a higher note. There is something unique to find in every wedding and on this occasion it was the first dance.
Few couples repeat their first dance but as Lena's Mum missed it the first time, James and Lena did. Us Mothers hate to miss any significant moments in their children's lives and that obviously doesn't change whatever age our kids are.
So I got a second chance to capture the first dance and I am thankful for that. These last few shots were taken during that dance and in that moment when I saw them on my camera screen I felt satisfied that the story of the day was complete. Even though of course it is just the beginning for Mr and Mrs Caney.
When I look back at this wedding I know it will be impossible for me to do so without smiling involuntarily. Whatever life throws at you both, may it never take that infectious smile away from you Mrs Caney. The world needs people like you to light up the dark times.
