Hello and welcome to the Halliday wedding. My intention for this blog is to keep my ramblings short and sweet (which actually is not a half bad description of the bride).
I first met Gemma at a Muay Thai class. Cool eh? Yep, she delivered a belter of a left hook then kicked me in the shins and then in her deepest, darkest, scariest voice she bellowed in to my face..... "you WILL photograph my wedding punk!" ...
...ONLY JOKING Seriously that never happened but I thought it would be a really fun way to open up the blog, after all from what little I have learnt about the Hallidays they do like to laugh (especially during the most serious of moments) explanation to follow later.
Let's move swiftly along.... now Gemma LOVES this song and so do I. If you haven't heard it yet you proabably will too as it compliments our couple perfectly. So readers HIT PLAY and I shall continue....
Best described as absolutely classic, Gemma's dress was 100% Gemma. This is a bride that knows how to do class with a very healthy sprinkling of something a bit different. I knew when Gemma and Karl booked me for their wedding that it would not look like any other wedding I was to shoot this year and that quite frankly somewhat tickled my photographers fancy.
Oozing as much class as Gemma's dress apparently her best friend loves a bit of the bird.. naughty bridesmaid!
According to a reliable source, Gemma is not one to reveal her emotions that freely in public. On this occasion (and a wedding will do that to you) it would seem she would be caught off guard somewhat by her future husband.
Best wedding gift 2015 award goes to Karl Halliday for getting his Mrs not just any edition of her favourite book in the whole wide world... NO he ony went and bought her the LIMITED EDITION version and THAT right there readers is OBVIOULSY why she was marrying him and not just becase of his tendancy to use such endeering terms such as.. "man up princess"... Well done Karl you nailed it.
I have to take this opportunity to congratulate the hair and make up artists here. I have never seen more perfect victory rolls. Class class class and more class (yes even Sheree who is believe it or not a world champion shin kicking, left hook delivering martial artist). That's enough about her though, she had the audacity to show up to the wedding with a sun tan. Selfish bridesmaid!
Here's Mum! VERY proud and VERY talented Mum who made the spectacular wedding cake.
Oh look. It's time to get the dress on... I know what you're thinking.... she looks like a film star doesn't she? YES YES YES she does readers.
Gemma being (I ain't no ordinary bride) Gemma only went and made her own shoes. Aren't they fab? Beauitful and talented. That's a dangerous mix young lady.
I absolutely love photographing this girl. Honestly, she's one of the nicest people I have met this year. You look so beautiful!
Right, stop staring at her wonferful face.. time to crack on with this wedding.
Red lips were on and tissues were packed (mine included) and that was my cue to pack up the kit and get ready to head off to the registry office. Check out the car that came to collect the Bridesmaids, how lovely is that?
Oh and there's Duck face.. Did I mention that Gemma is a twin? Fortunately for me they were wearing completely different outfits on the day. Phew.
Oh it's all gone so vintage fusion! Check out this AMAZING camper VW lovers! Her name is "Olive" and she is a new arrival to the crazy world of weddings. Don't they just look wonderful together?
Right, that's enough about vintage cars, it's time for some serious stuff. Well I say serious... Karl and Gemma were definitely serious about getting married.. look how happy he is when he sees her walking down the aisle... LOVE this face!
Their ceremony was brilliant. They pretty much giggled the whole way through it but somehow ended up with a certificate and some rings on fingers. Well done you two.
It's Mr and Mrs Halliday!!
Congratulations you two!
Honestly, I really have loved to be around these two. The way they are with each other, the way they look at each other, you can see without question they are the best of friends and I feel so long as they are together the world will be a fun and most wonderful place.
I am going to add a unique finish to this blog as it just seems the most appropriate thing to do...
The Halliday wedding poem
Spring flowers in the Autumn
made up a bold bouquet
victory rolls and duck faces
and a few 'birds' along the way.
Vintage cars and home made shoes
united Bride and Groom
giggling through the serious bits
these two lit up the room.
Confessions of a Ganderton
kind words from best man's speech
many books filled up the shelves
but kept mostly out of reach.
Love lit up the The red Barn that day
and plenty of fun was had
it's good to be a Halliday
l was there and i'm so so glad.
